Wednesday, October 03, 2007

TULSA, Okla. (Oct. 3, 2007) - The ETSU doubles tandem of Enrique Olivares (Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela) and Sebastian Serrano (Cartagena, Colombia) advanced to the ITA All-American Championships Main Draw on Wednesday at the University of Tulsa.

Olivares and Serrano who defeated teams from LSU and Baylor on Tuesday dominated Davey Sandgren and John-Patrick Smith of instate rival Tennessee, 8-2 in the qualifying match on Wednesday afternoon.

"I can't even begin to tell you how I proud I am of Enrique and Sebastian," said assistant coach Johan Dorfh. "It was their best performance of the week. They broke their opponent early and never allowed them to get back in it. I'm really looking forward to see what they can accomplish in the main draw."

Olivares and Serrano who compiled a 23-4 overall record last season become only the second doubles team in the history of the program to reach the main draw of an ITA national event since Gustavo Gomez and Roberto Fernandez in 1999.
