Bucs tennis wraps up day two of Southern Intercollegiate

ATHENS, Ga. (Sept. 22, 2007) - The ETSU men's tennis team continued competition Saturday at the Southern Intercollegiate hosted by the University of Georgia. Action continues Sunday with the round of 16 and quarterfinal rounds of singles play and the third and fourth round of doubles.

 

Competing in the Flight I consolation singles, senior Sebastian Serrano (Cartagena, Colombia) defeated Ryan Farlow of Mississippi State, 6-3, 6-3. He will face Yoann Re of Virginia Tech on Sunday. Also competing in Division 1 consolation, Predrag Burmazovic (Belgrade, Serbia) fell to No. 68 Jack Baker of South Alabama, 6-2, 7-6.

 

In Flight II Lisandro Picardo (Mar del Plata, Argentina) fell to Georgia State's Anze Cevka in the Round of 32 after a hard-fought match, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, while Alex Ahlgren (Tyreso, Sweden) fell to Daniel Knause of Furman in a match that also went to three sets, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6(7-5).

 

In the Flight II consolation bracket, sophomore Daniel Isaza (Medellin, Colombia) fell to Brandon Corace of Virginia Tech, 3-6, 6-3, 10-6.

 

Competing in Flight III, newcomer Sergio Velez (Medellin, Colombia) fell in a hard-fought 6-4, 7-5 match to Maximillien Genuini of Mississippi State.

 

In Flight III consolation play Alex Apell withdrew due to injury against Mercer's Chapman Mitchell.

 

In doubles action, Serrano and Olivares fell to Travis Helgeson and Jamie Hunt of Georgia, 8-5 in Flight I, while Picardo and Isaza cruised by Miami's Carrega and Nieto, 8-4.  They will face Brandon Corace and Yoann Re on Sunday in the Round of 16.
