Lady Bucs drop Campbell, 6-1

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 4, 2008) - The ETSU women's tennis team dropped the Campbell Camels, 6-1 in conference play on Friday afternoon. With the victory the Lady Bucs improve to 11-8 overall and 7-2 in conference action while the Camels fall to 14-6, 5-4.

 

In doubles ETSU claimed the point as the duo of Yevgeniya Stupak (Kyiv, Ukraine) and Olya Batsula (Minsk, Belarus) defeated Scarlett Alfonzo and Blanca Saenz, 8-6 in the top position. In the No. 2 slot, Tara Byrne (Johnson City, Tenn.) and Vita Moskaliova (Minsk, Belarus) dropped Ana Surviladze and Nina Surviladze, 8-4. In the third slot Elena Volobueva (Barcelona, Spain) and Whitney Trotter (Guadalajara, Mexico) fell to Liza Bensimon and Cristina Garcia Brunet, 9-7.

 

In No. 1 singles Yevgeniya Stupak defeated Scarlett Alfonzo, 6-1, 6-1 while Olya Batsula cruised past Blanca Saenz, 6-1, 6-1 in the second position. In the No. 3 slot Tara Byrne breezed by Liza Bensimon, 6-1, 6-1 while Elena Volobueva dropped Nina Surviladze, 6-0, 6-2 in the fifth slot. Competing in the No. 6 position Vita Moskaliova defeated Tanya Ahuja, 6-2, 10-6.

 

The Camels picked up their lone point as Ana Surviladze defeated Andra Voinea, 6-2, 6-4 in the No. 4 position.

 

"We had to play indoors today because of all the bad weather and no one was very happy about that. We're just glad to get the match in and it was good to pick up another win. Overall it was a good match and it was good to see Yevgeniya out on the courts moving a little bit better," said  head coach Steve Brooks.

 

The Lady Bucs will continue Atlantic Sun play on April 6 as they host Gardner-Webb. The match is set to begin at 1:30 p.m. Follow all ETSU women's tennis action at www.ETSUBucs.com.
