JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (June 2, 2008) - ETSU student-athletes continued to raise the bar both on and off the court during the 2007-08 season. 

On Monday, the ETSU Department of Intercollegiate Athletics released an academic report, showing the academic numbers for Buccaneer student-athletes have increased during the year.

ETSU student-athletes had an overall cumulative GPA of 3.12; while non-athletes enrolled on campus only had a GPA of 2.91. Additionally, all teams in season during the spring term improved their Atlantic Sun All-Academic numbers, as 71-percent of all eligible students received the accolade.

Additionally, ETSU had 15 student-athletes in the Buc 4.0 Club, seven teams with a 3.0 GPA or higher, 70 percent of all student-athletes were named to the Buccaneer Honor Roll (3.0 GPA or above), 33 student-athletes were named to the Dean's List and every ETSU athletic team earned team GPA of 2.8 or higher.

"We continue to be proud of and excited by the accomplishments of our student-athletes; not only do they consistently compete near the top of our conference in every sport, they simultaneously have GPAs and graduation rates that are significantly higher than non-athletes on our campus and the national averages for Division I student-athletes," said Director of Academic Services Bob Baker. "Our coaches and administration do an outstanding job of recruiting quality student-athletes and facilitating an exceptional athletic program which enables our student-athletes to be successful in and out of the classroom."
