BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. (Oct. 27, 2007) -The ETSU volleyball team defeated conference opponent Gardner-Webb in five games Saturday night in Boiling Springs, N.C., 29-31, 30-19, 30-20, 27-30, 15-8.

 

"We did enough to get by tonight, and right now I am glad we got the win," said head coach Lindsey Devine. "I think it is time for some much deserved rest."

 

Freshman Laura Waddell (Lynchburg, Va.) led the Bucs offensively with 15 kills, while Callie Kiselich (Colorado Springs, Colo.), collected 12 kills and eight blocks for the Bucs. Freshman Desiree Dyck (Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan), had nine kills and four blocks in the match.

 

Senior Kaena Apana (Waianae, Hawaii), led the Bucs in back with 32 digs and four service aces. Freshman Whitney Cogburn (Kingsport, Tenn.), quarterbacked the Bucs offense collecting a double-double with 44 assists and 14 digs while tallying eight kills. Marissa Mortensen (Elk Grove, Ill.), also had double digit digs in the win with 11.

 

"Kaena had moments in the game where she played outstanding and really was on her game," Devine said. "We know that this team has the desire to get better every time they step out on the court."

 

With the win the Bucs are now 17-12 overall and 7-2 in conference play. The Bucs wrap up the regular season with a pair of conference home matches next weekend as they will take on Kennesaw State on Friday at 7 p.m. and Mercer on Saturday at 2 p.m.
