ETSU throwers highlight day one at Carolina Invitational

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (Feb. 1, 2008) - The ETSU track and field team concluded its first day of the 2008 Texas Roadhouse Carolina Classic Friday evening on the Dick Taylor Track inside the Eddie Smith Field House.

 

With a handful of events in the books, the Buccaneer throwers were the main highlight on day one.

 

On the men's side, Jarrod Burton (Bastian, Va.) posted the best throw from a collegiate athlete in the weight throw invitational. Burton finished second overall with his heave of 55-08.25 (16.97m), marking his second longest mark of the campaign.

 

After the first day of the men's heptathlon, sophomore Jordan Briggs (Erwin, Tenn.) stands in 10th, with 2,113 points. Briggs will look to move up in the standings as he competes in the 60-meter hurdles, pole vault and 1,000-meters on Saturday.

 

On the women's side, Zachlynn Blackburn (Tazewell, Va.) was also making noise in the weight throw. Blackburn posted her third top-five finish in the event, with a toss of 51-08.25 (15.75m).
