NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Mar. 4, 2008) - The Atlantic Sun office released its 2007-08 women's basketball all-conference selections Tuesday afternoon and three Lady Buccaneers landed league honors.

On the eve of the 2008 General Shale Brick Atlantic Sun Basketball Tournament, senior Michele DeVault (Columbus, Ohio) and sophomore Siarre Evans (Griffin, Ga.) received First Team All-Atlantic Sun accolades, while Karen Kemp was voted Coach of the Year by her peers.

DeVault and Evans lived up to the preseason hype after they were selected to the preseason all-conference team. DeVault averaged a career-best 12.7 points in the regular season and led the league in both 3-point field goal percentage (.421) and free throw shooting (.861). The Columbus, Ohio native became the 15th Lady Buccaneer player to reach the 1,000-point club back on Jan. 12 against Gardner-Webb, and also holds the school record with 223 career treys. The sharpshooter enters the conference tournament 10th on the all-time ETSU scoring list (2,000 career points) and is only seven points shy of moving past Regina Blair (1982-85) for ninth. DeVault is among the nation's best in three-point field goal percentage (21st in the country) and three-pointers made (2.4, 51st). She has been one of the most reliable Lady Buccaneer players over the last two seasons as she has started in 61 straight games and posted double figures in 22 contests.

Evans, who led the team in scoring (13.6) and rebounding (7.1), joined the first team all-conference list for the second straight season. Evans recorded six double-doubles during her sophomore term, including three to open the campaign. The 5'10" guard displayed an amazing performance in the Lady Bucs' first win of the season as she scored 17 points and grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds against Delaware State in the Preseason WNIT. Evans scored double figures in 22 games and led ETSU in the scoring category 10 times. The star from Griffin, Ga. ranked fifth in scoring and rebounding, 12th in field goal percentage (.433) and 13th in steals (1.9) amongst conference players. In two seasons, Evans has tallied 770 points and 434 rebounds, while starting in 57 of the 60 games played.

Prior to the season-opener the Lady Bucs were picked second by the league coaches, and after boasting 14 conference victories for the third straight year Karen Kemp received Coach of the Year accolades. This marks the second time in her 14-year career Kemp has been handed the award, the first coming in 1994-95, when she guided ETSU to a 21-win season in the SoCon. Kemp has piloted the Lady Buccaneers to the program's two postseason appearances and will have ETSU in postseason play again this year after claiming the 2007-08 Atlantic Sun regular season title. The coaching veteran also accomplished something that has not been done in over 20-plus years; coaching the Lady Bucs to their third consecutive winning campaign for the first time since 1984.

Kennesaw State swept the Player and Defensive Player of the Year awards as junior Britteny Henderson was tabbed the POTY and Greteya Kelley received the award for the league's top defender. Jacksonville's Ashley Williams and Virginia Gregoire along with Henderson rounded out the first team all-conference list. Monique Hudson of Gardner-Webb was selected Freshman Player of the Year.

ETSU looks to fight history this week as they hope to become only the fifth No. 1 seed to win the conference tournament in the last 10 years. The Lady Bucs kick off tournament play Wednesday evening versus Mercer. Tip is set for 6 p.m. inside Lipscomb's Allen Arena.
