Three named to Atlantic Sun All-Conference Second Team

KENNESAW, Ga. (Nov. 6, 2007) - Three members of the ETSU women's soccer team were named to the Atlantic Sun All-Conference Second Team on Tuesday for their performance throughout the season. The honorees were announced at the pre-tournament awards banquet hosted by Kennesaw State.

 

Sophomore Jordan Monty (Mesquite, Texas), junior Katie Green (Knoxville, Tenn.) and newcomer Kelly Brinkman (Clearwater, Fla.) were all named to the All-Conference Second Team, while Brinkman was also named to the All-Freshman Team.

 

Offensively Monty leads the Bucs with 10 goals, six assists and 58 points. She has started all 18 matches this season and broke her previous record of eight goals in one season. Her career 18 goals place her fourth on the career records list.

 

Green who transferred from the University of Florida has made an immediate impact for the Bucs, breaking the single season assist record dishing out nine on the year, four of which came on game-winning goals. She has also netted six goals and has seen action in all 18 matches this season.

 

Brinkman who has started in 17 matches this season recorded six goals and four assists and was awarded two A-Sun Offensive Player of the Week nods on the season. The first POTW honor came on September 17 after Brinkman netted the game-winning penalty kick against Western Carolina to clinch the inaugural ETSU Invitational crown while the second came after recording the tying goal and dishing out an assist on the game-winning goal against league leading Kennesaw State on October 21.

 

The Bucs who closed out the regular season on a four-game win streak and earned a four seed in the tournament are set to face the fifth-seeded Stetson Hatters on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. The winner of the match will face host school Kennesaw State in the semifinals.
