JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Sept. 22, 2007) - The ETSU club soccer team tied Appalachian State in a tough defensive battle 0-0, and showed its offensive firepower defeating Furman 4-1 at the Summers-Taylor soccer complex on Saturday.

The Bucs out shot the Mountaineers 20-4, but could not convert on a Romain Amrani (Marseille, France), penalty kick in the second half. Freshman goalkeeper Jonathan Weaver (Johnson City, Tenn.), had 3 saves in goal for the shut out.

In the second game freshman John Murphy (Chattanooga, Tenn.), took a through ball from senior captain Burl Williams (Johnson City, Tenn.), and slid it past the Furman keeper in the first half to take a 1-0 lead.  It did not take long for Furman to get the equalizer, when a deflected shot from outside of the 18 yard box found its way to the back of the next just before the end of half making the score 1-1.

The Bucs came out on fire in the second half, taking the a 2-1 lead when senior Benoit Berteau (Mont Saint Aignan, France), took the cross from junior Kyle Franklin (Maryville, Tenn.), and skillfully headed it past the Furman keeper.  Berteau scored his second of the game on a low drive from the left side after a great pass from Amrani making the score 3-1.  The Bucs put the game well out of reach on freshman Eddie Yah's (Johnson City, Tenn.), goal coming from inside the box with Amrani getting the assist.

The Bucs had 29 shots easily out shooting the Paladins. The Bucs forced 10 saves, while freshman goalkeeper Tucker Chastain (McMinnville, Tenn.), had three saves on five shots for the Bucs.
