JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 16, 2008) - The ETSU baseball team defeated former conference rival Appalachian State Wednesday night at Cardinal Park, 2-1.

ETSU (10-27, 7-14) got a great start from junior Ty Sarchet (Honolulu, Hawaii) who went seven innings allowing only one run on five hits and struck out three and walked one in the win.

Troy Mendez (Roswell, Ga.) got the Bucs on the board in the top of the first as he drove a ball over the right field fence for a solo home run to give ETSU an early 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the second, Bart Roark (Mountain City, Tenn.) added to the Bucs lead as he hit a solo job of his own to extend the Bucs lead to 2-0.

The Mountaineers cut into the Bucs lead in the top of the eighth as Jason Rook singled up the middle driving in a run to make the score 2-1.

The Bucs are back in action Friday as Belmont comes to town for a three game conference series at Cardinal Park. First pitch Friday night is at 7 p.m.

Jacob Fabry (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and Mendez were each 2-for-4 as Mendez had a home run and Fabry had a double.

The Bucs relievers did a great job as Chas Byrne (Johnson City, Tenn.) and Brandon Langston (Ringgold, Ga.) combined shut down the Mountaineers as they allowed no runs on one hit and stuck out one. Langston earned his second career save in the game.
