ETSU Baseball completes sweep of Jacksonville, 7-2

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (March 22, 2008) - The ETSU baseball team completed the sweep of Jacksonville Saturday afternoon at Sessions Stadium on the banks of the St. John River in Jacksonville, Fla. as they defeated the Dolphins, 7-2. The Bucs out hit the Dolphins 11-4 extending their win streak to three games.

 

ETSU (5-15, 5-7) got yet another good start from its pitching staff as freshman Josh Means (Kennesaw, Ga.) pitched a complete game only giving up two runs on four hits while striking out six and walking two.

 

In the top of the third, with two outs and the bases loaded freshman Paul Hoilman (Johnson City, Tenn.) doubled to left center driving in Jacob Fabry (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and Anthony Russell (Waldorf, Md.) to take an early 2-0 lead.

 

The Dolphins answered in the bottom of the fourth as Kyle Fleming drove in a run on a sacrifice fly to center field to cut the ETSU lead to 2-1.

 

Bubba Herbold (Knoxville, Tenn.) would get a two out RBI single in the top of the sixth as he drove in Paul Hoilman from second to extend the Buc lead to 3-1.

 

ETSU plated another run in the top of the eighth as Bart Roark (Mountain City, Tenn.) would single in Troy Mendez (Roswell, Ga.) to make the score 4-1. Ben Allen (Kingsport, Tenn.) added some insurance runs on the next at bat as he hit a three run home run to left field to increase the Buc lead to 7-1.

 

Jacksonville scored a run in the bottom of the eighth on a grounder to second by Tony Bernazard to make the score 7-2.

 

Hoilman, Mendez and Fabry each had two hits for the Bucs. Allen led the team with three RBI with his second home run of the season, and Hoilman had two RBI on the game.

 

The Bucs are back in action on Tuesday as they will head to Western Carolina for a 7 p.m. game at Hennon Stadium in Cullowhee, N.C.
