ETSU men's golf unable to hold on at Hackler Championship

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (March 9, 2009) - The 27th-ranked ETSU men's golf team struggled in the third and final round of the General Jim Hackler Championship Monday at the TPC of Myrtle Beach, posting the second highest score of the day to relinquish the team lead and finish tied for fourth on the team leaderboard.
ETSU's score of 23-over 311 was only lower than defending national champion and 17th-ranked UCLA, which posted a 313. The Buccaneers looked on as No. 33 Wake Forest fired a team score of 2-over 290 to finished first by 10 strokes over No. 27 N.C. State.
On the individual leaderboard, no ETSU player scored better than a 5-over 77, with junior Seamus Power (Waterford, Ireland) finishing the event with a team-best showing of tied for 10th. Meanwhile, sophomore Paul O'Kane (Casteldawson, Northern Ireland) had his best finish of the season with a tie for 13th. Other ETSU results included a tie for 24th by sophomore Rhys Enoch (Cornwall, England) and a tie for 29th by freshman Michael Stewart (Troon, Scotland).
N.C. State's Matt Hill took the individual title with a score of 3-under 213, winning by three strokes over Coastal Carolina's Zack Byrd.
ETSU will return to action March 13 in the Kauai Collegiate Cup in Kauai, Hawaii.
