MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (March 8, 2009) - The No. 27 ranked ETSU men's golf team placed four players in the Top 13 on the individual leaderboard, putting together a strong team effort to take the top spot in the team standings after playing two rounds Sunday in the General Jim Hackler Championships at the TPC of Myrtle Beach.

Led by junior Seamus Power (Waterford, Ireland) and sophomore Paul O'Kane (Castledawson, Northern Ireland), who finished tied for third and fifth, respectively, the Buccaneers fired a team score of 11-over 587 to lead by three strokes over second place Pepperdine.

"We won this event three years ago and we did some good things today," said ETSU head coach Fred Warren, whose team will begin third and final round play Monday morning. "We were paired with UCLA  -- the defending national champion --- and Duke today, so to play this well on one of the more demanding courses we will play all year was good to see."

Power is currently just two strokes back of Wake Forest's Travis Wadkins for the top spot individually, while O'Kane finished the first round with the top spot after posting a 1-under 71 in the morning round.

"It was a long day and an 11-hour struggle," said Power, who was recently named the A-Sun Golfer of the Month for February. "I got a few birdies late that improved my score, and as a team we're where we want to be. Now we just want to finish it off tomorrow."

Along with Power and O'Kane, sophomore Rhys Enoch (Cornwall, England) and freshman Michael Stewart (Troon, Scotland) are both tied for 13th at 148, while senior Jordan Findlay (Fraserburgh, Scotland) is tied for 64th.
