No. 39 Bucs will face Elon, No. 20 North Carolina and No. 35 Duke

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Jan. 16, 2009) - After seven fall tournaments and 253 off-season days of practice and hard work the No. 39th ranked ETSU men's tennis team will take its first step of defending back-to-back Atlantic Sun Conference Championships as they open the 2009 slate at the Duke Invitational Saturday, in the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center in Durham, N.C.

The three-day open tournament features No. 20 North Carolina, Elon and host No. 35 Duke. Overall, the field also highlights some of the top singles and doubles players in the nation, which include No. 25 Reid Carleton and No. 45 Kiril Dimitrov of Duke, No. 59 Taylor Fogleman of North Carolina and No. 120 Oscar Podlewki of Elon.

Not to be outdone the Bucs enter the tournament with one of their own top players in senior Enrique Olivares (Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela). The senior All-American enters the spring as the No.9th ranked player in the country and was recently voted by the A-Sun coaches as the 2009 preseason conference "Player of the Year."

Overall, the young but experienced Buc squad looks to build on their successful fall season in which they won four individual brackets playing in and against some of the top competition and tournaments in the country.
