(September 29, 2008) - After winning his first three opening round matches at the Ranked Plus One Invitational this weekend, ETSU men's tennis senior Enrique Olivares (Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela), dropped an emotional finals contest to 82nd ranked Sanam Singh of host Virginia, 7-6,6-4.

The loss ends an incredible run for the 31st ranked Olivares, in which the reigning Atlantic Sun Player of the Year won the prestigious 41st annual Southern Intercollegiate Championships, last Monday in Athens, Ga.

"It was pretty hard to watch Enrique lose his first match of the fall," said head coach Yaser Zaatini. "That being said, it's been very exciting to watch him play with so much care and passion. Anytime there's a challenge or a hard match he shows up ready to play and that's something that's very respectful. It's been nice that people are taking notice of the success he is having, especially since Enrique has worked so hard to get where he is now."

In doubles action the ETSU team of Olivares and fellow senior Alex Ahlgren (Tyreso, Sweden), continued its recent success this fall. After losing in the semifinals, the Bucs duo responded by winning the third place match of bracket A-2, against the Virginia team of Singh and Courtney, 8-5.

"It's been fun watching Enrique and Alex play doubles," said Zaatini "They both are great friends and really care about the team and each other when they are competing. When one player misses a shot, I think they feel like they let the other player down. Enthusiasm and teammate work are vital to success in doubles play and Enrique and Alex have both them qualities."

Olivares and Ahlgren return to the courts as they represent ETSU this coming weekend, at the ITA All-American tournament, in Tulsa, Okla. Both will compete in qualifying for the doubles portion of the tournament, while Olivares received an automatic bid from the ITA in the singles bracket due to his 31st ranking.
