Last home loss dates back to Feb. 24, 2003 against Old Dominion

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (March 24, 2009) - Looking like the preseason Atlantic Sun Conference favorite the No. 63-ranked ETSU men's tennis team continued to roll picking up its four win in the last five matches dropping regional rival Winthrop, 7-0 Tuesday at the Buddy Hartsell Tennis Center in Johnson City, Tenn. With the win ETSU (5-7) extended its home match winning streak to 45 consecutive contests dating all the way back to Feb. 24, 2003.

After completely dominating the three doubles matches, ETSU opened singles play as sophomore Charles Bottoni (Bois Guillaume, France) made quick work of Arthur Takahashi, 6-2, 6-0 in No. 4 singles action. The Bucs followed that performance up as fellow sophomore Grega Teraz (Mojstrana, Slovenia) dropped Sergey Belov in straight sets 6-4, 6-3, while senior Alex Ahlgren (Tyreso, Sweden) looked strong against Daniel Daudt winning in straight sets, 7-6, 6-3.

In one of the most exciting singles matches of the day freshman Sander Gille (Kuringen, Belgium), rallied back after falling in the first set to Nadav Ruppin 0-6. As the second set opened Gille stormed back knotting the match up a one set apiece after taking the second frame 7-5. Then with the match tied 1-1, both players would battle point for point, until the ETSU newcomer took control forcing a number of errors by Ruppin, taking the third set super tiebreaker 10-4.

In No. 1 singles action No. 11-ranked senior Enrique Olivares (Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela), who after winning a tough first set 7-5, closed out the match against Roy Sichel 6-1 in the second set, while junior Daniel Isaza (Medellin, Colombia) rounded out the scores by making quick work of Diego Toledo, 6-3, 6-0.

The Bucs will now look to keep both their 45-match home and 27-match A-Sun winning streaks alive as they welcome league foe North Florida this Friday at the Buddy Hartsell Tennis Center on the ETSU campus.
