Stupak looks to stay unbeaten this spring as ETSU looks for its first victory

 

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 19, 2009) - After a two week break the ETSU women's tennis team returns to action as they square off against Charleston Southern with a 2:00 p.m, contest Friday afternoon in Charleston, S.C.

 

ETSU (0-2) enters the contest after opening its 2009 season with a two-match road trip through the state of Kentucky. The Bucs dropped a heartbreaking match at Eastern Kentucky 5-2, Jan. 29 before losing a 6-1, decision at 23rd-ranked Kentucky a day later.

 

Individually, junior Yevgeniya Stupak (Kyiv, Ukraine) leads the way after starting the young season unbeaten. The preseason A-Sun Player of the Year has yet to drop a set this season defeating EKU's Svetlana Pimenova, 6-2, 6-2 and No. 61st-ranked Megan Broderick of Kentucky, 6-4, 7-5. Stupak along with, doubles teammate, freshman Paula Jamie (Madrid, Spain) looks continue its momentum during pairs play as the Buc duo took ETSU first doubles victory of the season against Kentucky last time out.

 

CSU (1-1) enters the contest after splitting a pair of matches this past weekend. The Lady Buccaneers took care of business against A-Sun member Campbell 4-3, before dropping their first match of the year against league foe USC Upstate 6-1.
