ATLANTA, Ga. (March 5, 2009) - The awards keep piling up for junior guard/forward Siarre Evans (Griffin, Ga.).

Just days after being named 2009 Atlantic Sun Player of the Year and First Team All-Conference, the Griffin, Ga. native received Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) National Player of the Month Honorable Mention accolades on Thursday afternoon.

Evans, who helped guide the Lady Bucs to a 6-2 mark in February, averaged 20.6 points, 11.4 rebounds and 3.1 assists in 35.1 minutes of work. In addition, she shot 48.3 percent from the field and 43.2 percent from beyond the arc; while also posting six double-doubles.

The 2009 Atlantic Sun Player of the Year recorded a career high 35-point effort in the 90-84 win at USC Upstate on Feb. 23, and her 18 rebounds against Florida Gulf Coast on Feb. 7 also set a new career best. Meanwhile, Evans also drained a career high six treys against Upstate and forced a career-tying six steals in the 73-66 win versus Kennesaw State on Feb. 26. Evans received the final A-Sun Player of the Week award on Monday morning, as she averaged 25.3 points, 10.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 3.0 steals in the final three games of the regular season. The award was Evans' second of the season and fourth of her career.

Evans became the second Lady Buccaneer player to be honored by the WBCA this season, as fellow junior TaRonda Wiles (Danville, Va.) was also named honorable mention for the month of January.

Louisville's Angel McCoughtry was named National Player of the Month after she averaged a double-double for the month of February with 26.0 points and 10.4 rebounds.

Evans and the Lady Buccaneers now open up play in the 2009 General Shale Brick Atlantic Sun Championships on Friday afternoon when ETSU faces Mercer in the first semifinal matchup. Tip off is set for noon (1 p.m. eastern) inside Lipscomb's Allen Arena.
