Vizcarrondo bounces back, ETSU women 8th
Monday, September 14, 2009
PRIMM, Nev. (Sept. 14, 2009) - ETSU sophomore Mayte Vizcarrondo (Cadiz, Spain) rebounded from a tough first round effort to post a team-best 2-over-par 74 during Monday's second round action in the Golfweek Conference Challenge at the Primm Valley Resort's Desert Course.
While Vizcarrondo improved her play by seven strokes over Sunday's first round, the ETSU women's golf team was unable to make a move on the leaderboard. While they still stand a respectable eighth in a strong 18-team field, the Buccaneers dropped from sixth to eighth place Monday on the team leaderboard.
In-state rival Chattanooga leads the event by two strokes over Pac 10 representative California. Individually, first round leader Carolina Hedwall of Oklahoma State still holds a four-stroke advantage over the field.
While Vizcarrondo moved up 31 spots on the leaderboard to a tie for 35th, fellow sophomore Nina Muehl (Vienna, Austria) continues to hold the highest position on the individual leaderboard for the Bucs, firing a 77 on Monday to fall from fourth place to 14th. Meanwhile, senior Laura Jansone (Jurmala, Latvia) and Kennie Leigh Eisenhower (Newport) both finished the day with a pair of 78s. Jansone is currently tied for 29th.
Third and final round play will conclude on Tuesday. For live scoring, visit Golfstat.com or read a complete wrap up at ETSUBucs.com following the day's action.
