Saturday, September 19, 2009

ATHENS, Ga.  (Sept. 19, 2009) - Despite a inclement weather delay that canceled the majority of day two action Saturday, the ETSU men's tennis team did manage to pick up two victories in Division II doubles action at the 49th annual Southern Intercollegiate in Athens, Ga.

Senior Daniel Isaza (Medellin, Columbia) and sophomore Ofir Weintraub (Rishon Le Zion, Israel) advanced to the Round of 16 with their victory against host Georgia's Alex Hill and Will Oliver, 8-2.

Meanwhile, the Buccaneers also got a great showing from the ETSU duo of freshman Jesus Bandres (Caracas, Venezuela) and Sander Gille (Kuringen, Belgium). Both Buc underclassmen advanced to Sunday's winner bracket match up with a  8-7 win over Orcun Seyrek and Arsel Kumderli of UNC-Greensboro.

With the postponement, action in the Division I singles flight will continue Sunday, while the last quarter of Division II action will also be played tomorrow beginning at 7:50 a.m.
