NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Nov. 14, 2009) - The ETSU volleyball team fell to Lipscomb in the season finale on Saturday afternoon in Allen Arena in Nashville, Tenn., 3-1 (15-25, 18-25, 25-21, 17-25).

"Unfortunately our season has come to an end," said head coach Lindsey Devine. "We had the talent, but it all came down to this final weekend, and some earlier losses this season really factored into our finish in the conference standings. When the talented ETSU team showed up on the court this season, we were a team that nobody wanted to play. We were confident and disciplined, and we followed our game plan. It's tough when you don't capitalize on your opportunities and play to your potential."

The Bucs (11-18, 9-11 A-Sun) were led by Whitney Cogburn (Kingsport, Tenn.) as she posted 12 kills in the match. Senior Amanda Youell (Middleburg, Fla.) had a good all-around performance with five kills, 31 assists and eight digs, while Jen Neice (Allen, Texas) led ETSU in the back with 27 digs.

Junior Alysa Long (Romulus, Mich.) posted five kills in the match as she finished the season hitting .316 which is fourth-best all-time in the single season record book.

Play was tight early in the first set, until the Bisons picked up four-straight points go ahead 9-5. Lipscomb extended its lead to 21-10 after a 10-2 run later in the set. The Bisons took the set 25-15 on an ETSU attack error to take a 1-0 lead in the match.

Lipscomb got out to a quick 7-1 advantage in the second set. The Bucs got as close as five points a couple times, but the Bisons went on to take the set 25-18 on a Amy Trykowski kill.

In the third set, ETSU got an early 9-2 lead. The Bisons battled back to tie the set at 18-all after an 8-2 run, but the Bucs were able to go back in front 23-19 after a couple Lipscomb attack errors. A Lauren Baufield (Plymouth, Minn.) kill closed out the set for ETSU as they cut the Lipscomb lead to 2-1 in the match.

The Bisons took a 7-3 lead early in the fourth set. Lipscomb then used an 11-3 run later in the set to take a 20-9 advantage. The Bucs looked to rally back taking four-straight at one point, but the Bisons closed out the match on a block by Trykowski and Jake Pease to take the set, 25-17.
