Ingram, James claim Atlantic Sun Athlete of the Week honors

Junior sprinters kick off 2009-10 season with a bang at Appalachian State Invitational


MACON, Ga. (Dec. 9, 2009) - Junior sprinters Jasmine Ingram (Frederick, Md.) and Mike James (Palm Bay, Fla.) kicked off the 2009-10 track and field season on a high note Saturday afternoon at the Appalachian State Invitational, and on Wednesday afternoon the league office honored them with Atlantic Sun Athlete of the Week accolades. 


James set a provisional mark in the season debut - clocking in the fastest time in the 55m hurdles at 7.35. Even after the altitude adjustment James' time still held as a provisional mark, sitting at 7.37. The Criminal Justice major also ran a leg in the men's 4x400m relay, which finished second with a time of 3:22.94. In addition, this marks the first time James has captured Athlete of the Week honors.


Meanwhile, as James was hurdling his way to the title in the 55mH, Ingram was sprinting her way to the crown in the 800m inside the Holmes Center. The Frederick, Md. native flew her way to the title in the event after posting a time of 2:22.48, which was two seconds faster than her nearest competitor. Like James, this marks the first-ever award for the Criminal Justice major.


This also marks the fifth straight year a Buccaneer male and female athlete have received A-Sun Athlete of the Week honors.


The ETSU men's and women's track and field team returns to action on Friday, Jan. 8, when the Bucs compete at Clemson.
