NASHVILLE, Tenn.  (Oct. 4, 2009) - The ETSU women's soccer team poured out its best offensive performance of the season with a 3-0 victory over in-state Atlantic Sun Conference rival Lipscomb Sunday at the rain soaked Lipscomb Soccer Complex.

With the win the Bucs improve to 3-9-0 overall, with a 2-2 mark in A-Sun action, while the Lady Bisons fall to 3-9-0, with a 1-3 clip in league competition.

"Lipscomb is a team that fights hard to the end, so I'm happy to get out of this weekend with at least three points," said head coach Heather Henson. "In a critical match today, our players were able to play with great effort and really keep Lipscomb on their heels with our offensive pressure."

After a Lipscomb foul early in the first half, junior midfielder Kelly Brinkman (Clearwater, Fla.), connected home with a strong direct kick from 18 yards out, for a quick 1-0 ETSU lead in the fifth minute.

The lead remained a 1-0 through the intermission as Lipscomb and ETSU tied with six shots a piece in the opening frame.

After neither team opened up the offense in the first 10 minutes of second half action, ETSU responded as freshman forward Tori Head (Kingsport, Tenn.) picked off a pass from Lipscomb keeper Ally Marler. After the speedy first-year player gained possession, Head then crossed a beautiful pass to junior forward Rachel Van Horn (Thousand Oaks, Calif.), who found the back of the net for her first goal of the season, in the 56th minute.

With its two goal advantage intact, ETSU wouldn't let up as senior forward Jordan Monty (Mesquite, Texas), fired a quick shot that bounced off Marler. After the rebound off of Monty's shot stayed in the box, Head crashed hard into the offensive zone, tapping in the insurance score in the 84th minute.

"Like our first two goals today, Tori's score was a complete team effort," said Henson. "We've talked about cleaning up any first shot attempts that might rebound off and Tori did just that. All our players did a great job creating a lot of havoc with the pressure they put on Lipscomb's back defenders. Anytime the ball was played out our midfielders and defenders were able to keep possession and fire the ball back into that third of the field."

Individually, Head led the Bucs with four points on the day (one goal, one assist), while sophomore keeper Megan Masch (Virginia Beach, Va.) posted her second shutout of the season with seven saves.

With the win ETSU now sits with six points among A-Sun teams. The Bucs return to action with a 7:00 p.m., contest Thursday at Campbell.

"One thing we know about the A-Sun is anyone can beat anybody at anytime," Henson said. "One of the strengths that this conference boast is the great diversity the league has from top-to-bottom. Because of that it's going to be interesting to see how this last month of the season plays out."
