Women's soccer entertains local youth with back to school bash
Monday, August 17, 2009
(August 17, 2009) - After defeating Winthrop 1-0, the ETSU women's soccer team, along with the ETSU Athletic Department's Marketing and Promotions staff, took time from its busy schedule to hold a number of micro soccer games with local area kids on the field of Summers-Taylor Stadium, Sunday.
"The back to school bash turned out to be a great event," said head soccer coach Heather Henson. "Our ETSU soccer players were able to join in during the mini games, alongside the youth soccer players that came out to join us for a great day of soccer all-around. As a program we like to stay connected with the youth soccer organizations in our community and yesterday we felt truly happy to give back to the support we get from all our fans. As a coach I feel that you can truly reach the youth players if you get involved in things they like. To see both boys and girls playing together with our players, really shows the fans, parents and community what the game of soccer is truly about."
On the field ETSU closed out its preseason with a remarkable 2-0 record, while off the field the Bucs have excelled in the area of community service. During the busy season, the Bucs volunteer and host soccer camps for Fit to Play, Girls Inc and local Upward soccer programs just to name a few.
