JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 28, 2010) - The ETSU baseball team picked up its sixth straight win Sunday afternoon as the Bucs defeated Saint Peter's 6-5 to complete the four-game series sweep at Cardinal Park.

Sophomore Josh Means (Kennesaw, Ga.) had a good start for the Bucs (6-1) in a no decision throwing 5.0 innings giving up one earned run while striking out four. Senior Drew Story (Jefferson City, Tenn.) earned the win for the Bucs as he came in and closed out the sixth allowing only one hit.

Joe Jimenez was tabbed with the loss for Saint Peter's (0-6) surrendering three runs on two hits and three walks in only 0.1 of an inning.

ETSU was led offensively by first baseman Paul Hoilman (Johnson City, Tenn.) and centerfielder Matthew Scruggs (Knoxville, Tenn.) as Hoilman was 2-for-4 on the day with a triple, scored three runs and drove in two, while Scruggs was 2-for-3 with an RBI and scored a run.

In the first inning, catcher Derek Trent (Kingsport, Tenn.) got the scoring going for the Bucs as he singled down the right field line bringing in Bo Reeder (Cookeville, Tenn.) to take a 1-0 lead. In the next at bat, freshman Kerry Doane (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) drove in Hoilman on a sacrifice fly to left to make the score 2-0 ETSU.

The Bucs added another run in the bottom of the second as Andrew Green (Powell, Tenn.) came in to score on a ball hit to short by Scruggs to extend the ETSU lead to 3-0.

Brian Koster cut the ETSU lead to 3-1 in the top of the fifth on an RBI ground out to second for Saint Peter's.

The Peacocks jumped in front 4-3 in the top of the sixth scoring three runs on four hits.

ETSU answered in the bottom of the sixth as Hoilman tripled off of the wall in center scoring Scruggs and Reeder to give the Buccaneers a 5-4 lead. Hoilman then came in to score an insurance run on a wild pitch to make the score 6-4.

Saint Peter's got a lead-off home run in the top of the seventh by Conor Mullee to cut the ETSU lead to 6-5, but junior Bo Reeder (Kingsport, Tenn.) settled down to retire nine of the next 11 batters to close out the game and pick up his second save of the season.

The Bucs are back in action Wednesday at 2 p.m. as they head to UNC Asheville. Please visit www.ETSUBucs.com for more information on ETSU baseball and all other Buccaneer athletic news.
