Bucs fall to Kennesaw State in series opener

KENNESAW, Ga. (May 20, 2010) - Kennesaw State scored five unanswered runs as the ETSU baseball team fell to the Owls 5-4 Thursday night at Stillwell Stadium in Kennesaw, Ga.

 

Sophomore Bo Reeder (Cookeville, Tenn.) was tabbed with the loss for the Bucs (29-25, 14-11 A-Sun) after giving up five runs (four earned) on nine hits in 7.1 innings of work.

 

Brad Long earned the win for Kennesaw State (21-31, 10-14 A-Sun) throwing 2.0 perfect innings of relief for the Owls with four strikeouts.

 

Freshman Andrew Green (Powell, Tenn.) led the Bucs offensively going 4-for-5 with an RBI and scored a run. Green's four singles in the game broke a school record with 64 singles on the season. Green also tied a school record with three stolen bases in the game, as the Bucs had a school record eight stolen bases as a team.

 

ETSU grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first as Matthew Scruggs (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Green came around to score on a Kennesaw State error.

 

The Bucs added two more runs in the second inning on a Green RBI single and a bases loaded walk to catcher Derek Trent (Kingsport, Tenn.) to increase their lead to 4-0.

 

In the bottom of the sixth, the Owls cut the ETSU lead to 4-2 on a two-run single by left fielder Clint Roques.

 

Stubblefield cut the Buccaneer lead to 4-3 in the seventh as he crushed a solo home run onto the balcony overlooking left center. Later in the inning, Drew Fowlkes singed in Bucky Smith to tie the game at 4-all.

 

Kennesaw State took a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the eighth as Ross Tendler doubled in Ronnie Freeman.
