JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 4, 2010) - The ETSU men's golf team will open its 2010 spring season on one of golf's most prestigious courses, as the Buccaneers travel to compete in the JU Invitational hosted by Mark McCumber at the TPC Sawgrass.

Each year, the TPC Sawgrass hosts The Players Championship, which is one of professional golf's most revered events and boasts the famous Par 3 No. 17 "Island" green.

Play in Jacksonville, Fla., begins on Monday and fans will be able to follow the action live by visiting In addition, host school and fellow Atlantic Sun member Jacksonville University will provide video reports from the event which will be posted on YouTube following each day's action, and those links will also be available at

The ETSU men enter the 2010 spring season with their sights set on returning to the Top 25 nationally, a place that the Buccaneers have consistently ranked over the last three decades. The Bucs have a veteran and experienced squad, led by a pair of former Atlantic Sun Conference individual champions in 2007 medalist Seamus Power (Waterford, Ireland) and 2009 winner Michael Stewart (Troon, Scotland).

Power, a senior, led the team in stroke average at 73.5 one year ago and enjoyed a victory in the Larry Nelson Collegiate Invitational. He has three career victories at ETSU and finished the 2009 fall season third on the team with a 74.2 stroke average.

While Power is the lone senior on the squad, juniors Rhys Enoch (Cornwall, England) and Paul O'Kane (Castledawson, Northern Ireland) also bring a wealth of experience and talent to the lineup. Enoch's resume includes a win in the 2008 Shoal Creek Intercollegiate as a sophomore, and he led the team with a 71.8 stroke average and three Top 10 finishes in four events during the fall portion of the 2009-10 schedule. Meanwhile, O'Kane finished third on the team a year ago with a 74.6 stroke average and posted two Top 10 finishes. In the fall of 2009, O'Kane was second on the team with a 74.1 stroke average, playing in two of the team's five events.

Stewart leads a group of four Buccaneers who are either sophomores or freshmen, and has enjoyed a strong start to his collegiate career. Stewart, who posted four Top 6 finishes as a freshman, won last year's A-Sun Championship and finished fourth on the team in stroke average during the fall (74.3). The other sophomores on the squad include Devin Komline (Dorset, Vermont) and Peter Wilson (Locust Valley, N.J.). Komline played in each of the team's five events during the fall and finished fifth on the team with a 75.1 stroke average. Wilson competed in three tournaments and enjoyed his best finish in the fall by tying for 40th in the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at The Ridges.

Garth McGee (Bangor, Northern Ireland) is the team's lone freshman, and competed in three of five events during the fall. His low round of the fall came in the second round of the Gary Koch Invitational, where he posted a 74.

After opening the season at the JU Invitational, the Bucs will play an additional four events in preparation for the Atlantic Sun Conference Championships, which will start April 19th. The team's schedule again features some of the nation's top collegiate events, including the Puerto Rico Classic, which begins Feb. 21.
