Muehl wins title, Bucs finish 6th at Kiawah Island

Tuesday, February 23, 2010

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. (Feb. 23, 2010) - Carding a final round 71, ETSU sophomore Nina Muehl (Vienna, Austria) captured the first individual championship of her collegiate career by winning the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Classic Tuesday at the Cougar Point Golf Club.

Muehl, who finished tied with Oral Roberts' Crystal Reeves, posted rounds of 72-70-71 to finish at 3-under-par 213 for the event.

"Winning your first college tournament is always special," Muehl said. "I was able to put together three good rounds. That was the key to be in position to win."

While Muehl surged on Tuesday, her teammates struggled as the Bucs fell from second place on the team leaderboard following Monday's second round to a final showing of sixth. Besides Muehl, no other ETSU player finished with a score better than 4-over 76.

Miami won the team title by one stroke over second place Minnesota. The Hurricanes finished at 28-over 892 as a team.

Along with Muehl's efforts, senior Sinead O'Sullivan (Galway, Ireland) finished tied for 15th at 7-over 223. No other ETSU player finished better than a tie for 65th.

The Bucs will get a few weeks of rest before returning to action March 15 at the Northern Migration Invitational in Florence, Ariz. For more on ETSU women's golf throughout the 2010 spring season, visit ETSUBucs.com and click on the women's golf link.
