MIAMI, Fla. (Feb. 15, 2010) - The ETSU women's golf team improved on its first round team score by four strokes during Monday's second round action in the Hurricane Invitational, as the Buccaneers finished fifth on the team leaderboard and find themselves still in contention at the Don Shula Country Club.

The Bucs, who have posted scores of 304-300=604, are currently just 12 strokes back of team leader Georgia State, while second place San Diego State is just four strokes back of the Panthers. Individually, San Diego State's Christine Wong continues to lead the event by just one stroke over Georgia State's Cathrine Madsen.

"We improved our team score today, but we didn't gain any ground on the lead," said ETSU head coach Stefanie Shelton, whose team will begin third and final round play on Tuesday. "That will be our goal tomorrow. We want to play well and have a chance."

Shelton's ladies find themselves ahead of program's such as N.C. State, Memphis, Miami, Kentucky and South Florida.

The Bucs have stayed in contention thanks to all around strong efforts across the lineup. Leading the way are sophomores Nina Muehl (Vienna, Austria) and Mayte Vizcarrondo (Cadiz, Spain), both of whom are currently tied for 18th. Vizcarrondo posted a team-best round of 73 on Monday.

Meanwhile, seniors Sinead O'Sullivan (Galway, Ireland) and Laura Jansone (Jurmala, Latvia) are tied for 22nd, while fellow senior Kennie Leigh Eisenhower (Newport) is tied for 37th.

Final round scores and information will be available at following Tuesday's action.
