FRESNO, Calif. (March 10, 2010) - The ETSU softball team opens up play at the Bayer CropScience Classic this Thursday night when the Lady Bucs take on host Fresno State. First pitch is set for 10 p.m. (Eastern) at Bulldog Diamond.

The Lady Bucs are coming off a difficult trip at Riverside where ETSU went 1-4 with its lone win being a 5-2 victory over the Highlanders on Sunday. Junior newcomer Jessica Duncan (Ooltewah, Tenn.) earned her fifth win of the season and improved the Lady Bucs to 8-9 on the year. Duncan went all seven innings allowing two runs on four hits while striking out three.

ETSU faces another difficult test in this tournament, as the Lady Bucs also face Cal State Northridge (2:30 p.m.) and Georgetown (5 p.m.) on Friday, and Colorado State (Noon) and Mississippi State (5 p.m.) on Saturday.

Fresno State currently sits 10-7 overall and are receiving votes in the USA Today/NFCA Top 25 poll. Meanwhile, Cal State Northridge has won six of its last eight and enters tournament play with a 7-11 mark. Colorado State is riding a five-game winning streak into tournament play and are 12-7 through the first 19 games; while Mississippi State - who went to the NCAA Regional in 2009 - is 14-7 and the Bulldogs are coming off a split over Tennessee on Tuesday. Rounding out the tournament field are the Hoyas of Georgetown who are 6-7 on the season.
