MACON, Ga. (Feb. 3, 2010) - Senior Kenneth Rotich (Nairobi, Kenya) ran his way to the 3000m title at the Liberty Open this past weekend, and on Wednesday afternoon the Buccaneer scholar-athlete received Atlantic Sun Runner of the Week honors.

 

With cold temperatures and snow flying outside the Tolsma Track Center, Rotich heated things up on the track as the Kenyan sensation dominated the 21-man field with a top time of 8:27.79. The engineering technology major, who was racing in the 3000m for the first time all season, beat his nearest competitor by over 10 seconds. Rotich's time is also eight seconds faster than any A-Sun competitor in 2009-10.   

 

Rotich, who claimed his second Runner of the Year award this past October in cross country, captured his first weekly honor of the season and the second of his career during the indoor season.

 

The Atlantic Sun Conference is an 11-member league committed to Building Winners for Life. The Buccaneer track and field team returns to action this weekend, as Duronal Monal (Belle Glade, Fla.) and Mike James (Palm Bay, Fla.) head up to Blacksburg to compete in the Virginia Tech Elite Meet.
