MACON, Ga. (May 11, 2010) - Senior Cheniece Cason (Moreno Valley, Calif.) was named second team All-Atlantic Sun and rookie Lucy Schneider (Dade City, Fla.) was selected to the All-Freshmen Team, as the league office released its postseason awards Tuesday afternoon.

"Both of these young ladies deserved these accolades, because of the countless hours they spent perfecting their game over the past year," added head ETSU softball coach Andrea Mangrum. "It's gratifying to see hard work pays off in the end, and their character far outweighs their talent on the field."

Cason led all A-Sun players in three offensive categories as the Moreno Valley, Calif. native won the regular season batting crown (.372), while also ranking first in hits (71) and triples (4). In addition, the senior shortstop finished second in runs scored (44) and fifth in on-base percentage (.425). Cason, who recorded a team-leading 19 multi-hit games, also boasted a career-best and team-tying nine-game hitting streak from 3/11-20. The education major capped off an illustrious career by setting three single-season ETSU records. Cason broke the record for hits, batting average and on-base on-base percentage, along with starting the last 174 games for the Lady Bucs.

"Words cannot express how my heart feels for Cheniece, because of what she accomplished in her senior season," said Mangrum. "I am also glad she etched her name not only in the ETSU softball record book, but left her mark in our conference. She had the ultimate senior season and was the MVP of our team. Cheniece was the definition of consistent for our program this season and I am honored to have been a part of her success."

Meanwhile, for the second straight season the Lady Bucs landed an All-Freshmen Team selection in Schneider. The Dade City, Fla. native enjoyed an outstanding rookie season as she led all freshman hitters in doubles (13) and runs scored (32), ranked second in hits (54) and RBI (32), and fourth in average (.298). Schneider started 55 games for the Lady Bucs, recorded 14 multi-hit games and drove in multiple runs six times in 2010.

"Lucy wasn't only our Rookie of the Year, but she was a game changer," Mangrum said. "Not only did she come through with clutch hits for us offensively, but Lucy made multiple defensive plays for us in the outfield. Lucy was an infielder until this past February, and I am so thankful she was willing to do whatever was best for this team. She also filled big shoes by batting in the top third of the line up all season."

Lipscomb, the 2010 regular season champions, swept the top honors as Whitney Kiihnl was voted Player and Pitcher of the Year, while Kristin Ryman was tabbed Coach of the Year by her peers. Kennesaw State's Ashlee Burkett was named Freshman of the Year.
