Friday, July 30, 2010

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (July 30, 2010) - ETSU head baseball coach Tony Skole announced the signing of local product Corey McPherson (Johnson City, Tenn.) to the 2010-11 class on Wednesday.

McPherson joins right-handed pitcher Dak Rissman (Lake Worth, Fla.), right-handed pitcher John Long (Anderson, S.C.), left-handed pitcher Justin Willis (Knoxville, Tenn.), catcher Steven Monger (Oak Ridge, Tenn.), left-handed pitcher Clinton Freeman (Johnson City, Tenn.), right-handed pitcher Bret Gallihugh (Sevierville, Tenn.) and outfielder Dylan Pratt (Gray, Tenn.) on the 2010-11 signing class.

"Corey simply plays the game the right way," Skole said. "He is such an exciting player that can beat you in many ways. The tempo that Corey brings to the park is what really attracted us to him. It is nice to have another outstanding local product in our program, and he should be a fan favorite."

McPherson, a 5-foot-9, 160-pound middle infielder, comes from Science Hill High School where he played for coach Ryan Edwards. A member of the three-time Conference and Regional Championship Hilltopper team, McPherson hit .420 as a senior driving in 21 runs on 12 doubles and three home runs. McPherson was named to the Johnson City Press Super 22 Second-Team as well as First-Team All-Conference in 2010. A two-sport athlete at Science Hill, McPherson also played on the Hilltopper football team from 2007-09.
