Monday, August 02, 2010
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Aug. 2, 2010) - After assisting the men's and women's track and field program the last two seasons, assistant coach Eli Sunquist was promoted to full-time Monday, announced head track and field coach David Walker.
"It is a pleasure to see Eli advance in his career," Walker said. "Eli has done tremendous work for our overall program, and it is good to have him on the staff as a full-time coach."
In just his first two seasons with the Bucs, Sunquist has coached the jumpers and multi event athletes to nine individual conference championships, four conference records, 22 all conference performers, and four school records. Sunquist was also able to help three Buccaneers win the first conference title in school history for their perspective events; Josh Cloyd in the indoor triple jump, Ryan Beaver in the outdoor triple jump, and Matt Baum in the indoor pole vault. In addition, this past year Sunquist had six different athletes named as conference field event athletes of the week. Sunquist was also able to coach Jason Johnson to a 10th place finish at the USATF Jr. Nationals in the triple jump.
