ETSU volleyball opens practice Monday
Tuesday, August 10, 2010JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (August 9, 2010) - The ETSU women's volleyball team will begin to prepare for the 2010 season Monday evening with the start of official practice. The team is scheduled to practice each day leading up to the season opener.
The Bucs are coming off of an 11-18 season a year ago and return ten players from that team. A senior laden team, the Bucs return five starters from last year's squad, including the top four team leaders in kills, Whitney Cogburn (Kingsport, Tenn.), Alysa Long (Romulus, Mich.), Erin Ryan (Davie, Fla.) and McKayla Barber (Columbus, Ind.). Barber, a former A-Sun All-Freshman honoree also led the team in blocks this past season.
Eighth year head coach Lindsey Devine and her staff also welcome in five newcomers to the group, including setter Nicole DeVries (Orangeville, Ill.) who looks to make an immediate impact at the position. DeVries was a four time all-conference honoree as a setter for Orangeville High School. Also, freshman outside hitter Megan Devine (Kingsport, Tenn.) and junior libero Kiley Tamblyn (Torrance, Calif.) look to provide a significant lift for the team. Devine was named Gatorade Tennessee Player of the Year and All-American by PrepVolleyball.com, while Tamblyn was named First-Team All-America by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) this past season after a stellar sophomore campaign at El Camino College.
The team will open the 2010 season at the Deacon Invitational in Winston-Salem, N.C on August 27. The Bucs face Georgia in the opener before taking on the host Wake Forest and Coastal Carolina to close out the tournament.
