ETSU Women's Basketball Grant Team set to host two-day seminar

Monday, July 12, 2010

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (July 12, 2010) - After earning a share of the NCAA Women's Basketball Grant for the third straight year, the ETSU Grant Team is set to host a two-day seminar this Tuesday and Wednesday in the Humphreys Center, located on the second floor of the ETSU/MSHA Athletic Center.

This seminar, which was put together by the ETSU Grant Team and A-Sun Conference, is designed to bring the other 10 institutions from the league to Johnson City, and share the successful ideas and experiences that have been effective over the last two seasons for promoting the sport of women's basketball. The two-day meeting runs from 4-8:45 p.m. Tuesday and concludes at 4 p.m. Wednesday.

"ETSU is proud to play a leadership role in the A-Sun Conference by hosting a two-day seminar for the member institutions in the league focused on marketing and promoting women's basketball," Senior Associate Athletic Director/Senior Woman Administrator Barbie Breedlove.  "This is part of the NCAA Women's Basketball Grant Program and is designed to grow attendance at the grassroots level. It is a testament to our ETSU Grant Team that we were awarded the grant funding for the third straight year. It is exciting to partner with the A-Sun and Commissioner Gumbart and Senior Associate Commissioner Sherri Booker to bring this expertise and experience to all the members of our conference.  Women's basketball will definitely benefit from these two days of intense work in Johnson City."

ETSU received a share of the grant after teaming up with the A-Sun to help increase awareness, exposure and attendance of women's basketball throughout the remaining 10 institutions.

In total, 88 member schools and conferences applied for the third year of the pilot program, and the A-Sun joined 13 other schools to receive the grant for the upcoming season.

Along with Breedlove, the members of the ETSU Grant Team include Executive Aid Kristi Smith, Assistant Director of Marketing and Promotions & Event Management Sara Hacker, Ticket Manager Brandon Hudson, Graduate Assistant Jeff Hiestand, and Assistant Director for Athletic Media Relations Kevin Brown.
