DURHAM, N.C. (July 23, 2010) - ETSU incoming freshman golfer Spencer Lawson (Raleigh, N.C.) fired a two-day total of 142 at the Old Chatham Golf Club to qualify for the 2010 U.S. Amateur Championship at Chambers Bay in Washington.

Lawson, a native of Raleigh, N.C., shot a first round 73 before firing a 3-under par 69 on day two to be one of the six qualifiers from Old Chatham to advance to the U.S. Amateur. The 69 shot by Lawson on day two was the low round of the day.

Lawson continues to play well during the summer as he has already finished tied for eighth at the North Carolina Amateur Championship (68-74-67-67276) and he also finished tied for 23rd at the Carolinas Amateur (74-70-70-72286).

A three-year letterwinner at Wakefield High School, Lawson was named CAP 7 Conference Player of the Year in 2009 after compiling a 34.78 nine-hole stroke average. He is a two-time Future Collegians World Tour (FCWT) All-American.

The U.S. Amateur Championship will be held August 23-29 at Chambers Bay located in University Place, Washington. The course opened in 2007 and was designed by Robert Trent Jones II. This will be the first championship for Chambers Bay but it is also scheduled to host the 2015 U.S. Open Championship.

Chambers Bay becomes the third municipally owned golf facility to host a U.S. Open, following Bethpage State Park's Black Course (2002 and 2009) and the South Course at Torrey Pines (2008). The course is owned by Pierce County.
