Men's tennis earns three victories at season opening UVA Fall Invitational

Saturday, September 11, 2010 CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (September 10, 2010) - The ETSU men's tennis team got off to a solid start to the fall season as they picked up three victories on day one of the UVA Fall Invitational, Friday afternoon. "Overall a pretty good day and it was good to see the freshmen get some matches in," said ETSU men's assistant coach Ricky Rojas. "Jesus and Jorge had a good day winning each of their matches so I was happy to see that, and hopefully we will come out and get some more wins tomorrow." Jesus Bandres (Caracas, Venezuela) got off to a quick start to the season after earning a straight set victory over Ulrik Thomsen of George Washington, 7-6, 6-1. Bandres advances in the winner's bracket and will take on Christoffer Konigsfeldt of California tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. Freshman Jorge Varon (Valencia, Venezuela) earned his first collegiate victory after knocking off Dino Dell'Orto of Virginia, 6-2, 6-4. Varon will take on Ben Guthrie of William and Mary tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. The Bucs also picked up a doubles victory as Bandres and Varon knocked off the Virginia Tech duo of Graber/Jacques, 8-6. They will take on Oudshoorn/Rooda of Virginia tomorrow at 8 a.m.
