From the Pitch: With Tori and Sam Week 5
Wednesday, September 15, 2010
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Sept. 15, 2010) - ETSU women's soccer players Tori Head (Kingsport, Tenn.) and Samantha Kron (Paradise Valley, Ariz.) will be stopping by throughout the season to provide a weekly blog on life as an ETSU women's soccer player. Here is week five of From the Pitch featuring Tori Head.
This past week has been a little crazy. School is finally on its way and teachers are getting more in depth with each class. This means we are now going to classes, freshman are doing study hall hours, weights, practice, and then homework. Our weeks look at little like this, Mondays are our days off. Tuesday we have weights at either 1:30 or 2:10 depending on your classes and then soccer at 3:30. Wednesday is usually our day to meet with our mental Coach Tami at 3:30 and soccer at 4:30. Thursdays we head back into the weight room and then soccer at 3:30. Fridays are GAME DAYS for us, and Saturdays are soccer at usually 11. Sunday is GAME DAY again, if you ask me those are some hectic weeks. That is the life of a college soccer player and I love it!
This weekend was our ETSU Soccer Invitational presented by DoubleTree Hotel. We had three teams come to Johnson City, Tenn. for our tournament: Temple, Miami (OH), and Winthrop. The tournament started Friday when Miami (OH) took on Winthrop. Miami came out with a win. We had our pre-game meal in the Culp like always. Then it was time to go to the locker room. Kick-off was set for 7:00 p.m. ETSU versus Temple! This game was a difficult one for us. We played hard and put up a great fight, but we lost 1-0. We could not get down on the loss because Sunday we had another game. Saturday we practiced at 10 and then rested the rest of the day. Sunday came quickly, it was GAME DAY, ETSU versus Winthrop. We had our lunch at noon. Kick off was set for 3:30 p.m. We were ready for this game. We needed to redeem ourselves from the loss that had happened on Friday, and just that we did. Winthrop scored first, but we did what ETSU women's soccer does best… we did not give up. Terri Miller scored an amazing goal in the first minute of the second half to get us going. The game stayed tied all the way through regulation as the game went into double over time. Then in overtime, Genna Petersen made a great run and got the ball… she took the ball up the field and crossed it in… Terri was right there for the diving header… WE WON!!! In double overtime in college soccer we play something called the golden goal, meaning that the first team to score in overtime wins. On Sunday that was the BUCS!!! We finished the weekend on a high which is exactly what we needed. This coming weekend we start the season that truly counts, our Conference play. We host Campbell University on Saturday at 5:00 PM at Summers-Taylor Stadium. Come out and support the BUCS. Conference play is what we have been working for since last November. Come see us get to work and do our job!!
Until next time,
