JOHNSON CITY, Tenn.
(Oct. 13, 2010) -The ETSU men's golf team is set to host the 13th annual Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at The Ridges. The tournament will begin on Friday morning and will run through Sunday afternoon, with 18-holes being played each day.
This year's field includes four of the top-35 teams in the country. The group features No. 24 Wake Forest, No. 25 Virginia, No. 29 Michigan, and No. 35 Kent State, along with Tennessee, Virginia Tech, Chattanooga, Missouri, Coastal Carolina, North Carolina, UNC Wilmington, Louisville, Denver, and the hosts ETSU.
The resume of former competitors in the tournament includes PGA Tour and European Tour winners such as Lucas Glover (Clemson), Camillo Villegas (Florida), David Gossett (Texas), Anthony Kim (Oklahoma), Luke Donald (Northwestern), Jonathan Byrd (Clemson), D.J. Trahan (Clemson), Matt Kuchar (Georgia Tech), Carl Pettersson (N.C. State), and Graeme McDowell (UAB).
Tennessee returns to the event as the defending champions as they edged Oregon State last year in a scorecard playoff. The two teams finished the event at 3-under par 861.
Individually, this year's field features five players ranked in the top-50 nationally. Headlining the group is No. 7 Ben Kohles of Virginia, No. 15 Lee Bedford of Wake Forest, John Hahn of Kent State, No. 18 Evan Beck of Wake Forest, and Lion Kim (No. 40) of Michigan. Kim is the reigning U.S. Amateur Public Links champion and will participate in The Masters next year.
The Bucs are coming off a ninth place finish at last weekend's Rod Myers Invitational, hosted by Duke. ETSU junior Devin Komline (Dorset, Vt.) recorded his highest career finish as he tied for fifth. Komline also recorded his collegiate career low round of 67 during Monday's final round.
Freshman Spencer Lawson (Raleigh, N.C.), sophomore Patrick Spraggs (Rochford, England), junior Peter Wilson (Locust Valley, N.Y.), and senior Paul O'Kane (Castledawson, Northern Ireland) will join Komline in the starting lineup for the Bucs this weekend.
ETSU All-American Rhys Enoch (Cornwall, England) will not be available due to a shoulder injury.
The tournament will begin on Friday with each player starting on hole number one. Play will begin at 8:30 a.m.
