JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Oct. 15, 2010) - The ETSU men's soccer team defeated Jacksonville 1-0 Friday night at Summers-Taylor Stadium as the Bucs got an early goal from senior Guilherme Reis (Belo Horizonte, Brazil).

"This was an important conference match with potential playoff implications," said head coach Scott Calabrese. "We started tentatively, but after we scored we grew in confidence and played very well in the remainder of the first half. In the second half, Jacksonville really pushed us for the equalizer, but we were able to grind out the result and get the all-important three points."

Both teams were held below their average shot attempts in the contest as the Bucs (8-4-0, 3-2-0 A-Sun) outshot the Dolphins (6-6-1, 1-3-0 A-Sun) 8-4 in the contest putting four on frame. Sophomore Ronnie Hreha (Asheville, N.C.) picked up his second shutout of the season as the ETSU defense played stout keeping JU from putting a shot on net.

Early in the first half ETSU was awarded a penalty kick as a JU defender fouled sophomore Alesi Osorio (Austin, Texas) in the 8-yard box. Reis stepped up and converted the penalty kick putting the Bucs up 1-0 in the 16th minute as he sent a shot into the left side of the net past Jacksonville's Zach Greenwald.

The score remained 1-0 at the break despite a couple good looks from the Bucs late in the first half as ETSU held an 8-3 advantage in shots in the half.

In the second half, the game became very physical as five cautions were given in the half. The Dolphins had the lone shot in the period as the Buccaneer back line picked up the intensity cutting off a couple scoring chances for JU late in the match.

The Bucs return to action on Sunday at 2 p.m. as they close out the A-Sun home slate against North Florida. For more information on ETSU men's soccer and all other Buccaneer athletic news please visit www.ETSUBucs.com.
