Fan appreciation event features scrimmages, dunk contest, giveaways

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Oct. 21, 2010) - The ETSU Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and the Buccaneer Athletic Scholarship Association hosted the third annual "Bluenanza" Thursday evening inside the ETSU/MSHA Athletic Center, officially tipping off the 2010-11 men's and women's basketball season.

The event, sponsored by Johnson City Honda, gave approximately 1,500 fans a chance to get an early glimpse of this season's Buccaneer men's and women's basketball teams. With five championships between them over the last three seasons (two for the men and three for the women), expectations and excitement are high coming into the year.

"This is a great way for us to start the season," said ETSU men's head coach Murry Bartow. "It shows our appreciation to the fans, and gives both teams a chance to relax and put on a good show for those that are here."

Both teams played well in their 10-minute scrimmage contests, with junior Natalie Pickwell (Kingsport) winning the 3-point shooting contest and retaining that honor for the women's program, and senior Justin Tubbs (Trussville, Ala.) collected his second slam dunk win.

The Lady Bucs open play Monday, Nov. 1, with a preseason game against Tusculum at 7 p.m. inside the Dome. The Bucs will open the following evening on Tuesday, Nov. 2, when they host Carson Newman at 7 p.m.
