Fans get special $1 admission if they bring two canned food items to donate to Second Harvest Food Bank
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Nov. 17, 2010) - Off to their best start since the 1999-2000 season, the Lady Buccaneer basketball team looks to Pack the House Friday night when ETSU hosts Appalachian State to kick off homecoming weekend. Tip is set for 7 p.m.
This marks the fourth year ETSU is teaming up with the NCAA for the Pack the House Challenge as the Lady Bucs have set single-game attendance records in each those previous three games. Since the first year in 2007-08, the Lady Bucs drew 1,236 fans against Kennesaw State; meanwhile, last season 3,518 ETSU fans saw the Blue and Gold defeat in-state rival Chattanooga, 85-61. However, this season the Lady Bucs will need to eclipse the 4,600 mark as 4,601 fans entered the MSHA Athletic Center to see ETSU defeat USC Upstate, 88-67, on Feb. 22, 2010.
The ETSU Women's Basketball Grant Team and Second Harvest Food Bank teamed up for a special ticket incentive Friday night. Fans that bring two canned food items with them to the MSHA Athletic Center will be given a special $1 ticket price.
"We have worked with Second Harvest Food Bank in the past and we thought this would be a great promotion as we are gearing up for the holiday season," said Sara Hacker, Assistant Director for Marketing, Promotions and Event Management. "Not only does this incentive give families an affordable night of fun and basketball, but it also helps Second Harvest Food Bank during this busy season."
In addition to the ticket incentive, the first 300 fans who enter the gates Friday night will receive a special limited edition giveaway - courtesy of Johnson City Honda. Lady Buccaneer fans can also partake in the pregame tailgate festivities as free burgers and hot dogs will be served, beginning at 6 p.m. Along with the free food, games and inflatables will be set up for entertainment, while ETSU students can have the chance to sign up for a $50 cash giveaway - which will be announced during the second of Friday's game. Not only will one lucky student be given $50 cash, but one lucky fan will be given the opportunity to shoot for a $100 cash prize during one of the timeouts.
"We are hoping fans come out and show their support Friday night, because this is a big rivalry game," added head ETSU women's basketball coach Karen Kemp. "Both teams are playing really well right now, and we need the sixth man behind us if we want to win our 13th straight game at home. I always tell people to come out for one game and see what Lady Buccaneer basketball is all about, because typically if they come out once, they will want to come back again."
A special pregame ceremony will take place prior to tip-off as the 2010 Atlantic Sun regular season and tournament championship banners will be unveiled.
To purchase tickets for Friday night's game contact the ETSU ticket office at (423) 439-3878. Friday's game also ends a two-game homestand for ETSU as the Lady Bucs begin a four-game road swing beginning Monday night at seventh-ranked Ohio State.
