Free basketball clinic to be held for children following the game

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Jan. 21, 2011) - After playing 12 of their first 15 games away from Johnson City, the Lady Buccaneer basketball team is set to open a season-long five-game homestand Saturday afternoon when ETSU hosts Lipscomb. Tip is set for 1:30 p.m. inside the ETSU/MSHA Athletic Center.

ETSU (8-9, 5-3) is hoping to gain some momentum during this long home stretch as the Lady Bucs head towards the final month of regular season play. This homestand could be just what the Lady Bucs need to turn things around as ETSU is 21-3 at home against these five opponents (Lipscomb, Belmont, USC Upstate, Kennesaw State and Mercer) since joining the A-Sun in 2005-06.

The Lady Bucs are looking to get the bad taste out of their mouth after falling to North Florida by three last Monday. Despite leading by four with less than nine minutes to play, the Blue and Gold couldn't make shots down the stretch as the Ospreys came away with the 65-62 victory. Senior captain Tara Davis (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) - who led the Lady Bucs with 21 points - had a game-tying three-pointer fall short as time expired.

Davis has been carrying the Lady Bucs lately as she is averaging 25.3 points and has netted 41 of her last 48 free throw attempts over the last three contests. In addition, Davis is recording 22.6 points and 4.8 assists in five home games this season, while Natalie Pickwell (Kingsport, Tenn.) is shooting 46.4 percent (13-28) from beyond the arc inside the friendly confines of the MSHA Athletic Center.

After defeating Jacksonville by five back on Jan. 8, Lipscomb has suffered three straight losses and carries a record of 7-10, 4-4 into action Saturday.

The Lady Bisons are led by the strong duo of Jenna Bartsokas and Anna Bowers. Bartsokas is leading the way with 15.3 points per contest and Bowers has nailed 51 threes on the year (14.1ppg). As a team, Lipscomb is being outscored 68 to 63; however, they have a plus three turnover margin (15.4 to 18.4).

Saturday marks the 13th meeting between the clubs and the Lady Bucs hold a commanding 11-1 series lead. ETSU has won eight straight over the Lady Bisons since falling to Lipscomb, 57-52, back on Feb. 3, 2007 in Nashville. Overall, the 11 wins have been decided by 11 points or more, while five have been by 20 or greater.

ETSU students who attend Saturday's game have the chance to sign up and register for the chance to win $50 cash. The winner will be announced during the second half and you have to be in attendance to be eligible for the prize. Also, students who sign up at every home game will have a chance to win a prize pack at the end of the season.

Following the game, children in eighth grade or lower will be treated to a free basketball clinic with the Lady Bucs and coaches. The clinic will begin 15 minutes following the conclusion of the game and the first 100 children to sign up will receive a free giveaway.

Fans unable to make the trip to the Dome can listen to all the action on WXSM-AM 640 as Voice of the Lady Bucs John Stevens will carry the play-by-play. Live video streaming will also be available on A-Sun.TV, while live stats will be offered via Gametracker.
