JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 4, 2011) - Senior Jarrod Burton (Bastian, Va.) led the way for the ETSU men's and women's Track and Field teams Friday at the 33rd annual Niswonger Invitational inside the ETSU/MSHA Athletic Center as he finished first in the men's weight throw, while the Bucs had five athletes qualify for the finals in the sprints.

"We had a very good day," said assistant coach Eli Sunquist. "There is still some fine tuning that needs to be done, but we keep progressing well as a team. Mike, Jasmine, Emani, Jarrod, and Ifrish all had great showings, and we are looking for the sprinters to run even better tomorrow in the finals. In the field events, I saw some really good things, and I'm excited for the jumps and throws tomorrow. We are also looking forward to the distance events tomorrow with Landon Milhorn and Christian Brewer in the mile, and Ben Ronoh in the 5k."

Burton won the weight throw after his mark of 61-11 ½. Also showing well for the men was senior Mike James (Palm Bay, Fla.) who qualified for the finals of the 60m hurdles after running a time of 8.20. Freshman Ifrish Alberg (Paramaribo, Suriname) also qualified for the finals in the 60m dash after posting a time of 6.93.

On the women's side, both Jasmine Ingram (Fredrick, Md.) and Emani Harrison (Columbia, S.C.) had a good day in the sprints. Ingram qualified for the finals of both the 200m (24.65) and 400m (55.11) after running the second fastest time of the day  and personal best times in both events, while Harrison had the second best prelim time of 7.66 as she qualified for the finals of the 60m dash.

The 33rd annual Niswonger Invitational will resume tomorrow at 8 a.m. with the meet slated to conclude around 7 p.m.
