Trent named to 2011 Johnny Bench Award Watch List

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (March 11, 2011) - ETSU senior catcher Derek Trent (Kingsport, Tenn.) was named to the 2011 Johnny Bench Award delivered by Papa John's Pizza watch list announced The Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission on Friday. This is the second straight year that Trent has been named to the list including being named a finalist in 2010. On the season, the local native is hitting .323 with a double, two home runs and nine RBI. Trent has also been great defensively for the Buccaneers throwing out .33% of stolen base attempts thus far.
Forty-two catchers were nominated for the award by their coaches. Because the award is given annually to the top division one catcher, the list will be updated to include other candidates until May 6, 2011.
