JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Mar. 24, 2011) - Following a successful trip to California, the ETSU men's tennis team returns home for conference play as they host Florida Gulf Coast and Stetson, Friday and Saturday at the Buddy Hartsell Tennis Center.
ETSU will first take on Florida Gulf Coast, Friday at 12 noon, before closing the weekend against Stetson on Saturday at 11 a.m.
The Bucs finished third at the Hilton Mission Valley Spring Classic with a 2-1 mark. ETSU picked up wins against Harvard and San Diego State, while dropping a heartbreaker to No. 20 San Diego, 4-3.
The Bucs enter the weekend with a 10-6 overall record and a 4-1 mark in A-Sun play. They are currently tied atop the A-Sun standings with UNF and Campbell as each team has just one loss in league play.
Senior Charles Bottoni (Bois Guillaume, France) has been the hottest ETSU player lately as he is currently riding a five-match winning streak. Bottoni is tied for the team lead in singles wins during dual play with Juan Ramirez (Asuncion, Paraguay), Grega Teraz (Mojstrana, Slovenia), and Jesus Bandres (Caracas, Venezuela). Each has recorded eight wins so far in spring play.
Florida Gulf Coast heads into the weekend with a 3-14 overall record and a 1-6 mark in A-Sun play. The Eagles defeated Belmont just last weekend for their first conference win. Dean Tsamas leads FGCU with eight singles wins, while playing mostly at the No. 4 and No. 5 positions.
Stetson comes into the weekend with a 13-7 overall mark and a 5-2 conference record. The Hatters are led by Didrik Berg and Alexander Hackett as both have identical 13-5 dual singles records.
The Bucs have never lost to either Florida Gulf Coast or Stetson since joining the A-Sun.
