Bucs' Smith named to Lou Henson All-American team
Smith Saturday, March 26, 2011 BOSTON (March 25, 2011) - ETSU senior guard Mike Smith (Vandalia, Mo.) has been named to the 2011 Lou Henson All-America team, as announced by CollegeInsider.com on Thursday.
The Lou Henson Award is presented annually to the top Mid-Major player in Division I college basketball. The award is named in honor of Lou Henson, who retired after a spectacular coaching career that lasted 41 years. When he left the game in 2005, he was sixth all-time in career Division I wins
with 779. He is the winningest coach at both Illinois and New Mexico State. He is one of only 12 coaches in the history of the game to take two schools to the Final Four. Smith, who was the Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Year, currently leads the Bucs in scoring (17.9 ppg) and is second on the team in rebounding (6.9 rpg). He has scored 608 points this season, ranking eighth on the all-time single season list, while also netting 1,765 career points, which ranks seventh all-time at ETSU.
Rather than selecting a first, second, third team and honorable mentions; the Lou Henson All-America squad is just one team. The 2011 Lou Henson Player of the Year will be announced at the CollegeInsider.com awards banquet on April 1 in Houston, site of the men's basketball championship.
