Muehl posts 66, Bucs finish third at John Kirk Intercollegiate
Wednesday, March 23, 2011
STOCKBRIDGE, Ga. (March 22, 2011) - Senior Nina Muehl (Vienna, Austria) matched the day's best individual score with a 6-under-par 66, while the ETSU women posted its best team score of the tournament en route to a third place finish Tuesday during third and final round play in the John Kirk Lady Panther Intercollegiate at the Eagles Landing Country Club.
Muehl's 66 put her at 2-under 214 for the tournament and helped her finish fourth on the individual leaderboard. Dayton State's Mitsuki Katahira won the individual title at 6-under 210, while also posting a 66 on the day.
As a team, ETSU fired a 297 on the final day to move into sole possession of third place. The Buccaneers finished 18 strokes back of tournament champion Notre Dame, but ended the event ahead of programs such as Michigan, Central Florida, Mississippi State, James Madison and host Georgia State.
"I'm really proud of the entire team," said ETSU head coach Stefanie Shelton. "They have really been working hard and it's paying off as our scores are improving each tournament. More important though, they believe in each other and expect great things as a team, which is nice since we are getting closer to championship time.
"Nina just keeps playing well. She makes 66 look easy, and she is really capable of winning every tournament we enter."
Along with Muehl's efforts, ETSU freshman Sian Evans (Gillingham, England) and junior Mayte Vizcarrondo (Cadiz, Spain) both finished tied for 20th, while freshman Larissa Steinfeldt (Eschweiler, Germany) tied for 44th.
The Bucs will return to action April 1 in the Rebel Intercollegiate. For more on ETSU women's golf throughout the spring season, visit ETSUBucs.com and click on the women's golf link.
