JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Mar. 28, 2011) - Following two impressive victories against Florida Gulf Coast and Stetson over the weekend, the ETSU men's tennis team travels to Campbell with a share of first place in the A-Sun on the line, Tuesday afternoon at the Nisbet Tennis Center.
The Bucs posted dominant wins over the weekend as they defeated FGCU, 7-0, before dropping Stetson 6-1. ETSU currently sits at 12-6 overall and 6-1 in A-Sun play. In addition, the Bucs have won three matches in a row and their last five matches against A-Sun foes. ETSU, along with Campbell and UNF, currently sit atop the A-Sun with just one loss apiece.
ETSU has received strong play from senior Charles Bottoni (Bois Guillaume, France) in singles competition as he has won his last six matches. He currently owns a 9-5 overall record in dual play with a 3-1 mark in the conference. Sophomore Jesus Bandres (Caracas, Venezuela) continues to impress in his second season with the Bucs as he currently leads the team with ten dual match victories. Bandres has won eight of his last ten matches.
Bandres and teammate Sander Gille (Kuringen, Belgium) have been solid in doubles play as the duo is currently riding an eight-match winning streak. Bandres and Gille lead the team with a 12-5 overall doubles record on the season.
Campbell enters the match with a 13-2 overall record and a 5-1 mark in conference play. The Camels have won six matches in a row, including their most recent wins against A-Sun opponents Mercer and Kennesaw State. Davy Sum leads Campbell with a perfect 15-0 singles record on the season.
The Bucs are a perfect 7-0 against the Camels since ETSU joined the A-Sun during the 2005-06 season. Most recently, the Bucs knocked off the Camels in the semifinals of last season's A-Sun tournament.
